There are several conditions that, if present in your home,  need to be reported to us prior to your energy audit appointment. Once you report the condition to us we will determine a course of action that will depend on several factors such as the location and severity of each condition. Often times we may ask to schedule a site visit prior to your appointment so we can better determine the situation and recommend a course of action. Our number is 203.583.4567 and our office hours are M-F 8:30 – 4:00.

Asbestos and Vermiculite:

Prior to 1978 many types of building products and insulation materials used in homes contained asbestos and vermiculite such as pipe and duct wrap, furnace blankets and insulation.

Asbestos Duct Wrap Examples: (typically found in your basement and walls. This should be reported to us if found.)

Not Asbestos duct wrap:

Asbestos Pipe Wrap Examples: (typically found in your basement and walls.  This should be reported to us if found.)

NOT Asbestos pipe wrap:

Vermiculite Insulation Examples: (typically found in your attic and walls.  This should be reported to us if found.)

This should be reported to us if found.

Construction:

One of the most important tests we perform during your home energy audit is a test of your home’s insulation envelope. In order for us to perform this test there cannot be any construction or renovation work being done on your home. Specifically, there can not be any holes in the floors, ceiling, or exterior walls of your home. The red line on the image below shows a typical home’s insulation envelope. If you are having work done on your home, have holes in the walls, floor or ceiling of your home or are just not sure if your home’s envelope is in acceptable condition to test, call us and we’ll come take a look.
